Characteristics
The Mark Vle controller consists of a single board that executes the application code. Through onboard I/O network interfaces, the controller communicates with
the I/O packs. QNX Neutrino is the controller operating system (OS), a real-time, multitasking OS designed for high-speed, high-reliability industrial applications.
In contrast to traditional controllers that host I/O on a backplane, the Mark Vle controller does not normally host any application I/O.
Furthermore, all I/O networks are connected to each controller, providing all redundant input data. This hardware and software architecture ensures that no single
point of application input is lost if a controller is powered down for maintenance or repair.
In a TMR system, the controllers are labeled R, S, and T; in a dual system, R and S; and in a single system, R.Each controller has its own I/O network (IONet). The R
controller uses the R IONet to send outputs to an I/O module, the S controller uses the S IONet, and the T controller uses the T IONet.
I/O Networks (IONet)
IEEE 802.3 100 Megabits full duplex Ethernet networks serve as the 1/O networks. These networks are known as the IONet in the Mark Vle control system. Every IONet's traffic is deterministic UDP/IP packets. TCP/IP is not employed. Each network (red, blue, and black) is its own IP subnet.
TCP exchanges are performed by the Device Manager Gateway in its configuration and device communications. TCP is also used by the EGD protocol for configuration messages and exchanges.1588 Synchronization does not synchronize Class 1exchanges, and Class 2 exchanges occur between frames.
Flow control is only available between network switches.The networks are fully switched full-duplex, which eliminates the possibility of collisions that can occur on non-switched Ethernet networks.
During the critical input scan, the switches also provide data buffering and flow control. To synchronize frame and time, as well as controllers and I/O modules, the IEEE 1588 precision clock synchronization protocol is used. This synchronization provides a high level of network traffic flow control.
System I/O Module features
The terminal board, terminal block, and I/O pack are the three basic components of the Mark Vle l/O modules. The terminal board attaches to the cabinet and is available in two basic configurations: S and T
The S-type board has a single set of screws for each I/O point and can condition and digitize the signal with a single I/O pack. Using one, two, or three boards, this board is used for simplex, dual, and dedicated triple modular redundant (TMR) inputs. Typically, the T-type TMR board fans the inputs to three separate I/O packs. The outputs from the three I/O packs are usually voted on by the T-type board hardware
