Emerson Electric's (EMR.US) software division will merge with Aspen (AZPN.US) in a transaction valued at approximately US$11 billion
Emerson Electric (EMR.US) said on Monday that it will merge its software division with its smaller competitor,
Aspen (AZPN.US) at a price of approximately US$11 billion to promote the development of its industrial automation business.
It is understood that Emerson Electric's industrial automation business covers multiple industries such as utilities, mining, chemicals and automobiles.
The combined industrial software company will include Emerson Electric’s grid modernization technology and geological
simulation software, as well as software provided by Aspen for the mining, manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries.
Emerson Electric CEO Lal Karsanbhai said: "We see an attractive opportunity to accelerate our software strategy to take advantage of the rapidly evolving industrial software sector."
"Our customers are increasingly looking for partners to help them achieve greater performance when automating workflows."
Emerson Electric said that the software products of the combined entity will also support the sustainable needs of the green energy market such as biofuels, hydrogen and carbon capture.
