Bently Nevada 330101-30-61-10-02-05: Specifications, Applications and Sourcing Guide

FAQ: What Is the Bently Nevada 330101-30-61-10-02-05?

The Bently Nevada 330101-30-61-10-02-05 is a non-contacting 3300 XL 8 mm eddy-current proximity probe developed for machinery vibration and position monitoring. When connected to the correct 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor, the transducer system produces a voltage proportional to the distance between the probe tip and a conductive target.

This measurement principle enables the system to monitor both static shaft position and dynamic shaft vibration. Typical installations include turbines, compressors, pumps, generators and other critical rotating machines fitted with fluid-film bearings.

What Does the Part Number Mean?

Every section of 330101-30-61-10-02-05 defines an important mechanical, electrical or certification option:

· 330101: 3300 XL 8 mm probe with 3/8-24 UNF thread and without armor

· 30: 3.0-inch unthreaded length

· 61: 6.1-inch overall case length

· 10: 1.0-meter total probe length

· 02: Miniature coaxial ClickLoc connector, standard cable and no connector protector

· 05: CSA, ATEX and IECEx approval option

The complete ordering code is therefore essential. Purchasing only by the description “3300 XL 8 mm Probe” may result in the wrong thread, case length, cable configuration or approval option. Bently Nevada also specifies that one-meter 3300 XL 8 mm systems do not require an extension cable.

Key Technical Specifications

The one-meter probe cable has a nominal DC resistance of 7.59 ±0.50 Ω. Its standard cable is a 75 Ω triaxial FEP-insulated cable. The probe tip uses polyphenylene sulfide, while the probe case is manufactured from AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel.

The standard probe operating and storage temperature range is −52°C to +177°C. Rated tensile strength between the probe case and lead is 330 N.

Several other values apply to the complete transducer system rather than the disconnected probe alone. With the specified Proximitor Sensor and official test conditions, the 3300 XL 8 mm system provides:

· Linear measurement range: 2 mm

· Approximate linear operating range: 0.25 to 2.3 mm from the target

· Incremental scale factor: 7.87 V/mm or 200 mV/mil

· Recommended radial-vibration gap: Approximately 1.27 mm

· Corresponding gap voltage: Approximately −9 Vdc

· Frequency response: 0 to 10 kHz, +0/−3 dB

· Proximitor output resistance: 50 Ω

· Maximum current consumption: 12 mA

· Supply without safety barriers: −17.5 to −26 Vdc

· Supply with safety barriers: −23 to −26 Vdc

Standard systems are calibrated to AISI 4140 steel. A different shaft material may require appropriate consideration during system selection or calibration.

Where Is This Probe Used?

In oil and gas facilities, the probe can support radial shaft-vibration and position monitoring on compressors, turbines and large process pumps. Power-generation plants use proximity systems for turbine supervisory measurements such as radial vibration, axial position, eccentricity, phase reference and rotational speed.

Petrochemical and process plants use these measurements to identify changes in shaft behavior before they develop into bearing damage, seal problems, rotor rubs or an unplanned machine trip. The probe is also relevant to hydroelectric generators and other critical rotating assets that require continuous protection or condition monitoring.

Why Is the Exact Model Important?

A proximity probe is one part of a calibrated measurement chain. Thread type, unthreaded length, case length, cable length, connector, approvals, target material and Proximitor Sensor compatibility can all affect measurement reliability.

An incorrect replacement may physically fit the machine while producing an unsuitable electrical response—or may not meet the hazardous-area requirements of the installation. Using the complete code 330101-30-61-10-02-05 helps maintenance teams preserve the original mounting arrangement and measurement configuration.

How Can Maintenance Teams Reduce Procurement Risk?

Before issuing a purchase order, compare the complete nameplate number with the installed probe and Proximitor Sensor. Confirm the mounting thread, available insertion depth, cable routing, connector condition, hazardous-area certification and target material.

Because this is a one-meter configuration, buyers should also verify that the existing installation does not depend on a separate extension cable. Clear photos of the probe body, connector, label and mounting arrangement can help resolve compatibility questions before shipment. For critical machines, keeping a verified spare can reduce emergency sourcing time and support faster restoration during planned maintenance or an unexpected channel failure.

Recommended Related Models

Bently Nevada 330102-00-25-10-02-00 is an armored 3300 XL 8 mm probe suitable where additional cable protection is needed. Its shorter case and different approval configuration must be checked before selection.

For large steam-turbine differential-expansion or rotor-expansion measurement, Bently Nevada 330876-01-10-00-00 belongs to the 3300 XL 50 mm family and provides a complete-system linear range of 27.9 mm. It is not a direct substitute for an 8 mm probe.
